On Saturday 27th April, the concert hall at Longcroft Upper School was reverberating to the sounds of music being played by the massed ensemble of current and past members of the East Riding Senior Wind Band and Percussion Ensembles in celebration of 25 years since the inception of the two ensembles.

Fifty members from previous years gathered to socialise, eat and, of course, play music together with the current members. We witnessed so much that showed the benefit of music-making at school. That these alumni are able to return to play together and share their experiences, whether they now come from professional playing positions through to non-music related vocations, is testament to the power of music and the importance of opportunities offered during their years at school.

The reunion buffet lunch was a fabulous feast, courtesy of the Friends, and was rounded off with birthday cake, ceremoniously cut by Sharon Walker, conductor of the Senior Wind Band. In a brief speech she shared brief memories of the 25 years,
