On 10 November, the Friends held their AGM at The Hexagon Music Centre. This essential meeting fulfils the rules of the Charity Commission and our own Constitution. It is also a great opportunity to review the events of the previous year, focus on the monies raised and allow for any change of committee personnel. We were delighted to see some new faces at this year’s AGM and to give a warm welcome to one of our long-standing supporters, Councillor David Rudd.

Here is a summary of the key points raised:

  • Chairman David Constantine gave thanks to all who have helped out over the last year, and in particular thanks were given to Janette Davies for her long-standing contribution to the committee for many years
  • He also went on to thank Sharon Milner for her work on designing and building the website and keeping all stakeholders up to date through the Facebook page
  • Key events were then highlighted, including concerts, the popular Jazz & Quiz night and the annual Festive Bag Pack at Morrisons
  • David reminded attendees that even simple things such as returning filled Smarties tubes, Gift Aiding your donations and buying refreshments at the Tuck Shops or concerts all add up to make a real difference for our young musicians
  • This year, not only did the funds subsidise the cost of the Tour in the Summer, the transport cost for the Senior Wind Band, and Youth Orchestra to take part in the Music for Youth finals in Birmingham was also given, and FERYO also purchased a bass flute to add to the depth of sound of the increasingly successful Flute Choir.
  • And finally, David acknowledged the enthusiastic support of FERYO from Peter Walker, Deputy Head of the Schools’ Music Service, along with the vital role carried out by Fiona Latham, Partnership Liaison Officer

In total last year, FERYO provided £16,338 towards ER Schools’ Music Service ensembles’ activities.

Fundraising needs to continue apace, though, if FERYO is to carry on supporting all ensembles financially.
